Scott Kelby is President of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), and is Editor-in-Chief of both Photoshop User and Layers magazines. Scott serves as training director for the Adobe Photoshop Seminar Tour and is technical chair of the largest Photoshop gathering in the industry, Photoshop World. He is one of the leading Photoshop trainers in the country today, both in person and in a series of training videos. Photoshop Elements another helpful book guide by Scott Kelby

I bought the Elements Book to help me while I work with Elements while I am making corrections and changes to the photography I have shot. Scott Kelby is a pro and his books are very easy to understand with step by step instructions. I have purchased other Photoshop books by him and his books come highly recommended by photofinishers and professors. I bought his book on those recommendations and find this book to be very helpful. I recommend it to photographers who are working with Photoshop Elements.

Quick start guide for amateurs, yet advanced for growth

I've worn out the library copy of Kelby's previous Photoshop Elements 3 book, so when this version came out, I bought it immediately.
Photoshop Elements is a photography buff's dream come true. However, because the software is feature-rich, it also has a steep learning curve. Kelby's previous book got me started in a jif, and had me working with the techniques pros use. This book is no exception.
For those of you who have not seen the inside of Kelby's 400+ page book, each of the pages is done in full color graphics, with a glossy finish. Instructions are given in steps, with most techniques using only a few steps, and some techniques going into the high teens. Thus far, I've found that I've been able to follow each one I've tried.
The techniques Kelby outlines are useful and not difficult once he's shown you how. In particular, I like his section on working with faces, as most of my photographs are of people. Other valuable sections include keystoning, color correction and selection (layer) techniques.
For background, I'm a photographer wannabe, but realistically a full-time white-collar worker. I find time to work with images about two hours a week, so I like to do it as efficiently as I can. This book has been invaluable to that task.

A Service Manual for Digital Photographs

This is one heck of an amazing book. Here is why: I got it today and about 20 minutes later fired up my Trial Photoshop Elements program (13 days still remaining on the trial but it will be included with my Epson Scanner still coming from Amazon.com). Then I turned to a random page in the middle of the book and read the steps for color correction. I needed a picture so I picked some random picture from my library to experiment on (mind you, I never really thought anything needed fixing on this picture...always looked good to me). Then I began with the steps. Everything was easy to follow. The book provides picture samples to help you along and the author instructions are clear and sometimes dotted with humor. I learned and used features/tools I never knew existed in Photoshop Elements. Anyway, by the end of steps I looked with amazement at my picture. It just looked so much better then before, but to be sure I decided to cancel the changes made via the steps in the book. Oh my goodness, my original picture was all wrong. It was terribly red cast as the book explains. Man, I have no idea what these steps I performed in 5 minutes did but it completely changed my picture for the better.
Totally amazed, I just randomly picked some other page and then performed the steps to implement fill flash on a face when fill flash wasn't used. Holy Moly! Now this is almost magical. Within 2 minutes I'm using a brush to paint a "flash". I don't even know how all this is happening nor do I care, I just know I have the tools (Photoshop Elements and the steps in this book) to perform what seems like magic on my pictures.
Mr. Kelby has written an interesting book, indeed. It is sort of like an automotive service manual which just lists steps to change your brake pads without actually explaining the principles behind braking (and I am still not sure why I have to put that funny blue paste like thing on my brake pads when I change them). From what I can tell so far, this book is similar in that it includes steps to fix common picture problems such as color correction, adding a fill flash when it wasn't used, etc. without actually explaining why. For now, it is all I need. Maybe if my interest continues, I may purchase other books on Photoshop Elements to learn more that powerful program.
