About the Author
Khristine Annwn Page is the author of the previous edition, Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004: Training from the Source from Macromedia Press. She's the Director of NorthWind Studios, a collective of artists and writers [www.northwindstudios.com], and the editor/publisher of Crescent Magazine. She has taught Dreamweaver and Web Design classes at San Francisco State University’s Multimedia Studies program and given training in Dreamweaver for the Reuters Digital Vision Fellowship program at Stanford University. She has worked as a Multimedia Specialist at the San Francisco Exploratorium and as a Senior Web Designer at Ideum, a company devoted to producing Web sites for museums, non-profits, and socially responsible companies. Khristine holds a BFA with a Senior Award for Excellence from Rhode Island School of Design [www.risd.edu]. She has received awards from Adobe and her artwork has been shown in galleries in Providence, RI, New York City, and Palo Alto, CA.

A good book to have...

As a newbie in web publishing (I've been in print for 16 years) I have yet to find a book or forum that is 100% beneficial. The forums are mediated by experienced web designers who speak their language and not the language of the beginner. Somewhere, someone (and I'd be glad to do it with proper backing) needs to write a book that says, 'Want to do (one simple function)? Use these commands. NEXT...' That would have saved me months of grief.
So I bought books and slogged through tutorials until I gleaned enough of what I wanted in order to design my pages. Tutorials NEVER cover exactly what YOU want to learn, so they can drag on forever.
As for this book, I thumbed through it at my local Borders and saw that it had a few interesting tips that I might employ in future pages. I buy books such as this even if there is only ONE tip I need, and it's worth it, even at the price some of these titles command (this also justifies Amazon Prime, by the way).
The book is from Macromedia which is a plus because you are learning the program from the company that created it. The bottom line is this: When learning this stuff, you need a reference library to depend on, and this book is a key player. Forums are great as long as the mediators are online late on a Sunday night when you're struggling to learn a new technique. Buy this book, buy lots of books and EXPERIMENT as you go...that's the best way to learn.

Fantastic training tool . . . even out of college....

This text was actually recommended by my professor at the college I previously attended to meet the request of my current employer to utilize an application he had purchased for our office. Although my previous college training was in DreamWeaver MX 2004, I found this text to be the perfect 'updater' for the current software program available for website design and updating. Each lesson is simply explained, done in a step-by-step process and integrates various skills (updating, editing, links, etc...) for effective webpage maintenance. I would recommmend this text to the laymen and to the employed worker looking to continue to update their skills for job advancement. This particular publication is utilized at many community colleges integrated with the use of blackboard, and provides great context for online instruction.
