Great text for NC 7th grade Math

We're homeschooling our 12 yr old for the first time this year and I needed a Math text that was simple enough for me to understand yet not so easy my son would be bored. I had used another Math text written by Lial for a college level class and was very impressed. This text explains concepts and procedures in simple language and has numerous examples to use. I would recommend buying the accompanying Solutions Manual too. I have had up to college level Calculus and my son has been in public school for 6 yrs so we may have a little stronger Math background than others, but I do think most homeschooling parents would be able to use this book successfully. The concepts are written simply and have a lot of explanations and helpful hints in the "Note" boxes. Example: Purple Note box: "One way to remember which symbol to use is that the "smaller end of the symbol" points to the "smaller number (number that is less). 1 < 4, 0 > -3.
Very practical information and strategies to memorize steps. We'll be getting into Factoring soon (ugh!) and this text breaks it down so that even I can enjoy it.

The ladder of success

I have been below average in Math for most of my life but thanks to Prealgebra by Blair, Tobey and Slater my grade went up considerably. I managed to maintain a B average thanks to this comprehensive and easy to follow book. It set a steady foundation for me. Thanks

It's Math

I am taking in online class and this was the required text book. It worked well for someone basically trying to learn this on her own. It give a lot of examples and lot's or practice problems. The only problem is, unless you have the teachers addition you won't know if your doing the practice problem correctly.
This edition is supposed to have a code to get into: MyMathLab. An online course area that will tell you your doing it wrong, give you lots of practice, give hints, show videos and show pages of textbook to help you learn. My copy did not have this for some reason and I had to buy it on my own.
